The “Fight Doc” as he is affectionately called by his patients, is a board certified physical therapist in Jersey City and West New York with over ten years of clinical experience. He was a full scholar at Seton Hall University majoring in biology, pre-medicine and pre-physical therapy. He later graduated as part of the first doctorate class in physical therapy at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, now Rutgers Medical School.
A professional boxer, Golden Gloves, Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champion by trade, Josef realized that his true calling is in helping others.
He is certified in Ergonomics, Employment Testing, Functional Capacity Evaluations and specializes in Industrial and Occupational Rehabilitation. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, certified by the International Weightlifting Association as a strength trainer for senior citizens, and has studied orthopedic rehabilitation at the some of the best teaching institutions in the area.
Having lived in Asia to train in the martial arts, Josef has combined his knowledge and first-hand experience in both Eastern and Western philosophies to create a more well-rounded approach to injury care. Having undergone training at various institutions, he is the first physical therapist in Jersey City to incorporate the art of neuromuscular and trigger point dry needling. He is also the first clinician in Jersey City to study under the Neurac Institute and the first person in to utilize Red Cord Neuromuscular Activation in Jersey City.
Josef currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the prestigious Hudson County Chamber of Commerce alongside the community’s top medical, educational, and financial leaders. Josef was also selected as the American Physical Therapy Association’s New Jersey Delegate to Washington DC, where he personally met with United States Congressmen and Senators to fight for patient’s rights.
He served as chief physical therapist for the Burn Advocates Network where he worked with the University of Miami School of Medicine and the Hatian Ministry of Health to help earthquake victims by erecting the first physical therapy clinic in Northern Haiti. He is also involved in humanitarian missions in his native Philippines.
As the former Chair of the American Heart Association’s Pulse, he has been active in promoting health to the community’s youth through CPR and fitness programs. A product of the Jersey City public school system and community member with a vested interest in children’s education, he is an active participant in the Jersey City Public School Principal for a Day Program.
Above all else, Josef is most proud of being a loving husband and happy father of two.
Trusted by many, Josef is fortunate to call medical doctors, professional and Olympic athletes and the “Regular Joe” his patients. From high school athletes to senior citizens, his goal is to help get his patients back to life.
